As a circular route, the Guernsey Coastal Path runs for 39 miles (63 km) around the island – starting and finishing in the capital of St Peter Port.
The itinerary on our website covers the entire route over 4 days / 6 nights, with an average of 10 miles of walking per day. This includes an additional night in St Peter Port at the end of your walking holiday which allows you to explore Herm or Sark on your free day.

We grade the Guernsey Coastal Path as being of moderate difficulty. It is one of our shorter long-distance trails but it is not extensively way-marked, meaning it is a bit more difficult to navigate. Despite this, this walk is almost entirely coastal so you can use the shoreline as your guide. In addition, if you book with Absolute Escapes, we will provide you with detailed route notes and an up-to-date guidebook in your information pack.
The route is made up of a combination of busy and quiet roads on both tracks and paths. You will walk along clifftops, through urban areas, sand dunes, and woods. You can also walk on the beach occasionally if you so choose, but make sure you check the tide times.

Guernsey is steeped in history – there are castles, churches, ancient monuments, and fortifications that now make great attractions. There are 15 loophole towers that were originally built to protect the island from invasion in the 18th century. Many of the loophole towers have been renovated to give them a new modern use.
Between mid-March and July, you can witness a colony of puffins and take a boat trip where they will gather on the cliffs. You may also discover some seals lazing on the rocks whilst you’re out!
Any time of year, you can spot one of Guernsey’s iconic reddish-brown and white cows grazing around the island’s rural areas. The island also has a rich birdlife so make sure to bring your binoculars!
With the island surrounded by crystal clear waters, who could resist going in for a swim or paddle? Make sure to check out the beautiful waters and sandy beaches of Cobo Bay, Vazon Bay, and Pembroke Bay. The beautiful beaches and mild weather make for some beautiful golden sunsets.

From June to October, the temperature will be pleasant and the rainfall limited. Guernsey is likely to be at its busiest in August, so avoid peak summer if you are looking for more peace and quiet on your walk.

Sheila: “Enjoy an extra day to visit the nearby island of Sark, the second smallest of the Channel Islands and home to unspoiled beaches and spectacular scenery. With no cars on Sark, step back in time and take a horse-drawn carriage along the island’s charming roads.”
Andy: “The Guernsey Coastal Path is actually part of the Channel Islands Way, a 110-mile multi-island hiking trail following the coastlines of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Herm, and Sark.”
Scott – “My favourite bay is Petit Bot Bay – one of Guernsey’s stunning, hidden beaches. Enjoy a swim in the sea after your walk and refreshments at Petit Bot Tea Room.”
