This tour of Scotland’s film and television highlights takes in a myriad of cinematic landscapes from the cobbled streets of Edinburgh’s Old Town to the mountains of Glencoe and the vast seascapes from the Isle of Skye and St Andrews.

Visit Stirling, the real location of the historic events involving William Wallace that led to Braveheart (1995). For something completely different why not frolic with coconuts at Doune Castle, just like they did in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). Follow in the wake of James Bond in Skyfall (2012) as you travel over wild Rannoch Moor, passing the iconic Buachaille Etive Mor and into Glencoe.

A full day to enjoy a ride on the Jacobite Steam Train (aka The Hogwarts Express) over the Glenfinnan viaduct, as seen in numerous Harry Potter films (2001 onwards). Close to Fort William you can also explore the delights of Glen Nevis, the location for many scenes in Braveheart and Rob Roy (1995).

Travel up the spectacular Great Glen and Glen Garry, towards the Kintail mountains. Enjoy the stunning drive through Glen Shiel before making your way to Kylerhea to take the world’s last hand operated turntable ferry over the sea to Skye. You may recognise the area from Made of Honour (2008).

Make your way to the Trotternish Peninsula, its dramatic ridge the longest inland cliff in Britain. Explore the Quiraing, as featured in Stardust (2007) and the opening scenes of Prometheus (2012). Take a walk to the Old Man of Storr before making your way to cinematic Dunvegan Castle. You will soon discover why Disney-Pixar felt so inspired to feature Scotland’s landscape in their hit animation Brave (2012).
Overnight – Isle of Skye
Leave Skye behind and journey to the pretty village of Plockton, recognisable from The Wicker Man (1973) and Hamish Macbeth (1995 onwards), before making your way to Eilean Donan Castle. Possibly the most iconic Scottish castle, Eilean Donan featured in Highlander (1986), Entrapment (1999) and as the headquarters of MI6 in The World is Not Enough (1999), amongst many others. Continue your journey cross country to Speyside.

Travel to Pennan and have your photo taken next to Local Hero’s (1983) distinctive red telephone box. Make your way to Castle Fraser, the largest and most elaborate of Scottish castles built on the Z-plan design, and used during the filming of The Queen (2006). Finish your day with a tour of the Macallan Distillery and enjoy a dram of James Bond’s favourite whisky.

Leave whisky country behind and head to one of Scotland’s most famous towns. Situated on the east coast, and known as the Home of Golf, St Andrews has so much to offer.

Depart St Andrews and head south, visiting Dunfermline Abbey as you go, used in Macbeth (1997) and The Bruce (1996) and the resting place of many of Scotland’s finest kings and queens. View the iconic Forth Rail Bridge from Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (1935) before making your way back to Edinburgh or to Glasgow.
Glasgow has featured in recent Scottish film The Angel’s Share (2012) and was used in the filming of Brad Pitt’s blockbuster World War Z (2013).
