Historic castles

Perched atop Castle Hill, Stirling Castle is the former home of the Stewart monarchs. Further north, Urquhart Castle overlooks mysterious Loch Ness and on the shores of Loch Duich, Eilean Donan must be Scotland’s most beautiful & photogenic castle.

Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is popular for its stunning and dramatic volcanic scenery, including the iconic Storr and spectacular Quiraing. Portree is its colourful capital.

Cuillin mountains

Enjoy a cruise into the heart of the Cuillin mountains, with spectacular views of the peaks and ridges that tower over the Isle of Skye.

Coral Beaches

Take an enchanting walk to the Coral Beaches, located just north of Dunvegan on the coast of Skye, where sun-bleached algae turns the water a dazzling blue.

Shakespearean romance

Take the time to explore the fairy-tale 14th century Cawdor Castle and Loch Ness, both romantically linked by Shakespeare with Macbeth.

A Romantic Highland Getaway

Experience a wonderful honeymoon in the magnificent Scottish Highlands. This self-drive tour of Scotland encompasses the Scottish Lakeland, spectacular Glencoe and the magical Isle of Skye, as well as the brooding Loch Ness and finally tranquil Perthshire.

From your starting point of Edinburgh, this trip will take you west, into the serenity of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Here, the Scottish Lakeland provides a calm and relaxed setting to start your trip.

Make your way north on a stunning scenic journey, through Glencoe and across the remote and wild Rannoch Moor, into the heart of the Scottish Highlands. This is followed by an equally remarkable journey on the Road to the Isles, as you make your way over the Sound of Sleat to the Isle of Skye.

Explore Inverness, the Capital of the Highlands and mystical Loch Ness, enjoying a selection of the country’s finest mountain and loch-side scenery. This area of Scotland boasts some magnificent and romantic castles, such as Eilean Donan and Urquhart Castle.

Your Highland Honeymoon continues through Highland Perthshire – home to some of the most beautiful lochs and villages in Scotland, including the picturesque Victorian spa town of Pitlochry – before your romantic trip ends in Edinburgh.

Day 1: Edinburgh to the Trossachs

Your romantic journey begins by travelling north to visit magnificent Stirling Castle as it sits on its high volcanic rock, before continuing on to the beautiful Scottish Lakeland.

Day 2: The Trossachs Sightseeing

The outstanding natural beauty of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park provides wonderful walking opportunities. You can walk in the mountains or enjoy romantic strolls through leafy woodlands or easier hill or loch-side tracks. There are numerous scenic drives to enjoy and lovely villages to explore, or take a leisurely boat trip on Loch Katrine.

Day 3: The Trossachs to the Isle of Skye

A wonderfully scenic journey takes you across wild Rannoch Moor and through spectacular Glencoe and into the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Travel on the magnificent Road to the Isles and then by ferry over the sea to the Isle of Skye. The short sailing across the Sound of Sleat provides great views of Skye and back across to the West Coast.

Day 4: Isle of Skye Sightseeing

A full day on Skye to visit romantic Dunvegan Castle, sample some fine island whiskies, or climb aboard a fabulous boat cruise into the heart of the Cuillin mountains. One of Scotland’s very best restaurants is nestled on the remote shores of Loch Dunvegan, and all around are superb opportunities for walking and gazing at the magnificent sea views.

Day 5: Isle of Skye to Inverness

Depart Skye and travel past the most famous and romantic of Scotland’s castles, Eilean Donan, standing majestically on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet. Your route takes you by the shores of brooding Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle and onto Inverness – the Capital of the Highlands.

Day 6: Inverness Sightseeing

A full day to explore Inverness and visit fairy-tale Cawdor Castle, a 14th century castle romantically linked by Shakespeare with Macbeth. Or explore Speyside, one of the loveliest areas of Scotland with its mountains, pristine pine forests and sparkling lochans.

Day 7: Inverness to Highland Perthshire

Travel from the Highlands to the Lowlands with a drive through the heart of our country into beautiful Highland Perthshire. En-route visit Blair Castle or Dalwhinnie Distillery, the highest distillery in the Highlands.
Overnight – Pitlochry area

Day 8: Depart Edinburgh

After breakfast, it’s less than a two hour drive back to Edinburgh, where your unforgettable Highland Honeymoon will come to an end.
